Thai Demons - Garuda
This demon is the most important creature of the mythical Himmapan forest. Known as the king of birds, the demon is half-man and half-bird, represented with the head, beak, wings and talons of an eagle and the torso of a human. Garuda is called Khrut - ครุฑ in Thai and is the vehicle of Vishnu, a Hindu God. Thai people honor Garuda as a symbol of royalty and supremacy. In fact, he represents the Thai monarchy and government. An artist's rendition of this majestic creature appears on Thai bank notes as well as the royal flag. |
